Hypocenter Data in the International Seismological Summaries

Catalogue compiled on the data from the International Seismological Summaries (ISS), for the period from 1913 to 1963 in the International Seismological Centre. Catalogue includes information on 17868 earthquakes in the world. Size of datafile is 2.0 Mbyte.

The Catalogue is a part of the Global Hypocenter Database, prepared in the National Earthquake Information Center, U.S.Geological Survey (NEIC, USGS). The database was transmitted to the WDC for Solid Earth Physics on CD-ROM from the World Data Center on Seismology, Denver, USA.


Conventions of Data Format:
Length of logical record - 110 byte.
All decimal points are given.
Zeros and blanks are equivalent.

6-10 a5 Year.
12-13 i 2 Month.
14-15 i 2 Day.
16-17 i 2 Hours   (Origin time – UTC).
18-19 i 2 Minutes.
20-21 i 2 Seconds.
27-33 f7.3 Latitude in degrees ("–" - south).
34-41 f8.3 Longitude in degrees ("–" - west).
42-44 i 3 Depth in kilometers.
65-68 f4.2 Magnitude.
69-70 a2 Magnitude scale, "UK" - unknown magnitude scale.
71-75 a5 Magnitude donor :
    "ATH" - Athens Observatory, Attiki, Greece ;
    "BRK" - Berkeley - Haviland, California, U.S.A.;
    "KIR"  - Kiruna, Sweden ;
    "PAS" - Pasadena, California, USA;
    "PRA" - Prague (Praha), Czech Republic;
    "UPP" - Uppsala, Sweden;
    "WEL" - Wellington, North Island, New Zealand.
